When selecting 10G SFP+ Direct Attach Cables, network architects must balance distance requirements with cable thickness (AWG - American Wire Gauge). For short distances (0.5m to 3m), Passive DACs are highly recommended as they lack active signal-restoring chips, making them both highly reliable and cost-effective. Can I connect a 10G SFP+ DAC cable to an SFP28 25G port?
Yes, in most cases you can. Modern SFP28 25G ports are backward-compatible with 10G SFP+ modules. However, the switch port must be manually configured via command line interface (CLI) to run at 10G speed, as auto-negotiation between different physical rates may not always succeed automatically.
How does Kocent Optec guarantee multi-vendor switch compatibility?
We operate a dedicated compatibility lab loaded with switches from Cisco, Arista, Juniper, HP, Dell, and Intel. Every batch of 10G DAC cables is programmed with vendor-specific EEPROM coding. What is the main difference between Active DAC and Passive DAC?
Passive DACs contain no active circuitry and send the electrical signal directly. They are limited to about 5 meters.
