What is the difference between SFP+ AOC and SFP+ DAC?
SFP+ Direct Attach Copper (DAC) uses twinax copper cables to route electrical signals directly over short lengths (up to 7m). Active Optical Cable (AOC) incorporates optoelectronic components inside the connector shell to convert electrical signals to optical pulses, routing them over lightweight multi-mode fiber. This allows AOC to achieve much greater distances (up to 100m+), reduce overall rack weight, and eliminate EMI.
Are Kocent Optec AOC cables compatible with major switch brands (Cisco, Arista, Dell)?
Yes. Compatibility is programmed into the EEPROM at our factory using custom-coded firmware matching the specific key keys of Cisco, Arista, Juniper, Dell, Mellanox, and other vendors. We also offer dual-compatibility coding where one end is coded for a brand (e.g. Cisco) and the other end for another (e.g. Arista) to enable seamless multi-vendor networking.

Discrete transceiver set-ups require cleaning optical connector faces and aligning ferrules during installation, exposing them to site dust contamination. An AOC is a pre-terminated factory-sealed assembly. This completely eliminates contamination risks, improves insertion loss metrics, simplifies installation, and is highly cost-effective by reducing discrete component inventory.
